BigCommerce B2B wholesale platform with live pricing, TradeCentric punch-out integration, and a custom middleware link to NetYield ERP, built to manage the fast-moving demands of perishable seafood distribution.

Project Overview

The Wholesale Seafood Distributor has been supplying responsibly sourced fish and shellfish to restaurants, hotels, and retailers across the U.S. for more than three decades. Their operation handles everything from purchasing and processing to shipping products that are often cut to order in formats such as H&G, fillets, and portions. For years, much of the ordering and tracking was handled manually through Google Sheets, phone calls, emails, and QuickBooks. This slowed down day-to-day work, made growth harder, and left little room for the owners to prepare the company for sale. Adding to the challenge, seafood pricing changes daily, yields vary from catch to catch, and products are sold in different units of measure making it impossible to use off-the-shelf solution without extensive customizations.

Approach / Work done

We focused on building a B2B solution adjusted to the client's day-to-day needs with the goal to build the system that automates the distributor’s sales process, connects smoothly with their existing operational tools, and handles the complexity of seafood pricing, yields, and ordering units. That meant tying ERP pricing directly into the storefront, managing layered inventory rules, and making sure procurement tools worked smoothly with the new system.

What We Delivered:
  • Migration to BigCommerce B2B Enterprise with a private, login-only storefront for approved wholesale buyers.
  • Custom Middleware Application connecting BigCommerce to NetYield ERP to manage: real-time pricing by customer price class, BOM logic for yield-based pricing and product relationships, unit conversions and service fee calculations and order formatting for NetYield compatibility.
  • TradeCentric Punch-out Integration for large enterprise buyers using procurement platforms like Ariba and Coupa, enabling them to browse the catalog and return carts directly to their system.
  • Custom Product Calculators such as: portion Calculator to convert portion count and size into required order weight, unit of Measure Calculator allowing purchases by pounds, packages, or cases.
  • Account & User Management Enhancements with hierarchical company accounts, price class assignments, and role-based permissions.
  • UX/UI Updates to the Cornerstone BigCommerce theme for B2B use, including dynamic pricing display, processing service options with per-pound pricing, required shipping date for all orders, detailed cart breakdown with service charges.
  • Operational Alignment so orders from every channel (online, offline, and punch-out) flow into NetYield for centralized fulfillment and inventory tracking.

Project Results

When complete, the new platform will replace manual price checks and order entry with automated workflows, cutting down order processing times and improving efficiency. With TradeCentric integration, major hotel and restaurant groups, will be able to order directly from their procurement systems without leaving their own workflow. The middleware ensures pricing reflects real-time market changes, processing yields, and contract terms for each buyer. By removing many of the manual steps, the owners can step back from daily operations and better prepare the company for sale.
