Techno-Aide, based just outside Nashville, Tennessee, has been manufacturing medical imaging accessories since 1977. Their lineup includes everything from wearable radiation gear to positioning aids and other essentials used in X-ray rooms and imaging centers. After rebuilding their facility from scratch following tornado damage in 2020, the company has kept up steady growth, continuing to serve hospitals, clinics, and imaging providers nationwide. As part of their push to modernize operations and improve customer experience, Techno-Aide needed more flexibility in how products were sold online. The main challenge is that their products often require detailed configuration, but listing every variation in the product catalog wasn’t practical. At the same time, they needed those custom orders to play nicely with UPS’s real-time shipping calculations.

Techno-Aide needed a way for customers to configure products without bloating the catalog or breaking UPS shipping. We started with dynamic product entries powered by metafields and middleware, but UPS couldn’t calculate rates without full shipping data. So we reworked the flow: each custom product is now turned into a temporary simple item with all required shipping attributes. It’s added at checkout, then deleted post-purchase and keeping both shipping and catalog in sync.
The end result gave Techno-Aide a tailored configuration system that lets customers order exactly what they need and without losing compatibility with real-time shipping providers like UPS. By generating temporary products behind the scenes, the system stayed clean, efficient, and reliable. Checkout performance remained stable, all integrations held up under testing, and Techno-Aide now has a solid foundation for further upgrades.
