The initial goal was the website re-platforming from the current Magento 2 to BigCommerce keeping the functional parity and both UI/UX and functional improvements as a secondary step. The project had to be executed on a tight timeline due to the upcoming expiration of the Magento 2 license, which required a very careful approach to scoping, UI/UX and level of effort spent on platform customizations.
Another challenge was to build the engraving functionality from scratch and integrate with the 3rd party ERP (Acumatica) to assure the correct ordering/stock/pricing flows. This ended up with the heavy checkout customizations by implementing and configuring the Checkout SDK.
One of the biggest challenges during the work appeared to be a Gift cards functionality that was not included in the original scope of work for the team and was outsourced to a 3rd party vendor. By several reasons the client refused of the provided approach by that vendor and asked the project Dev team for assistance. This led to building the custom middleware functionality which was intended to connect the new BigCommerce website with the 3rd party system and sync data in real time. The main challenge was the tight timeline since this should be done and tested pre go live.
Despite facing a tight timeline and unforeseen challenges, the project was completed successfully. The goals of re-platforming, UI/UX enhancement, engraving functionality, and gift cards integration were all achieved within the designated budget and timeline. The project’s accomplishments are a testament to our dedicated development team’s expertise and the collaborative efforts between our teams.
