About The Client

A Chicago-based business operating as a B2B distributor of high-duty professional equipment for the sewer and drain cleaning industry.Their original website was based on Magento 1 and they were worried about the website’s maintenance when Adobe announced the final end-of-life for the platform the client decided to pursue replatforming to Magento 2.

Approach / Work done

The project had to be executed on a limited budget and on a tight timeline, which required a very careful approach to scoping, UI/UX and level of effort spent on platform customizations.

The client was guided towards using as much “out of the box” functionality as possible, as was explained what impact this may have on business and/or their customers.

  • A careful business discovery was conducted, and a detailed business requirement was created and approved with the client;
  • Then the UX designer created a web style guide and several design mockups for the most important pages (home page, product listing, product detail, shopping cart);
  • The project was planned out based on epics and user stories, which were executed in the order of their priority to minimize the risks and deliver the most critical features first;
  • The project included migration to a new hosting environment which had to be configured from scratch and then the full data migration was executed followed by a period of code freeze and user acceptance testing;

Project Results

The project took 3 months from start to finish, which included business discovery, planning, UX design phase, implementation, quality assurance and the final launch. This was a stark difference with the previous website, which took a large agency over 1.5 years to build and launch.
